Licensing

Hyper Compress is dual-licensed.

Open source: AGPL-3.0

The engine and everything in the repository are licensed under the GNU AGPL v3. You can use, modify and self-host it freely; if you offer it to others as a network service or distribute modified versions, the AGPL requires you to share your source under the same terms.

Commercial license

If you want to use Hyper Compress inside a proprietary or closed-source product, or offer it as part of a service without AGPL obligations, a commercial license is available. Contact us at contact@bentopdf.com.

Third-party components

Bundled components keep their own licenses: PDFium and its dependencies (BSD-3-Clause and component licenses), qpdf and jbig2enc and Highway (Apache-2.0), jpegli (BSD-3-Clause), Leptonica (BSD-style), the AFDKO subset (Apache-2.0) and the DM Sans font (SIL OFL 1.1). The full list with locations is in NOTICE.md.

Contributing

Contributors sign a CLA (the bot prompts automatically on the first pull request), which is what makes the dual licensing possible. See CONTRIBUTING.md for the workflow, and please include the PDF that reproduces any bug you fix so it can join the regression suite.

Dual-licensed under AGPL-3.0 and Commercial License.
